I know I used this picture in a previous blog post ... but it is so cute and I could not help myself! Incorporating vampires into the classroom can be a difficult task, as there are also standards that need to be taken into account. With that in mind though, I think it would be possible to incorporate this topic into a high school English classroom, as there are many texts about vampires that are a bit complicated, as well as historical information about the historical figure whom Dracula was based on. The historical figure is Vlad Tepes, but he goes by many names. There is also the content of how the country Romania handles and thinks about their hero being compared to a vampire. The Romanian government does not necessarily condone the comparison of Dracula to Vlad Tepes, but the Romanian government puts up with it due to the amount of revenue that is brought in from the tourism.   Where do vampires come from? Many people know about vampires due to the famous book and movie series "Twilight", as well as the movie series "Underworld" and Dracula by Bram Stoker. There was another really good movie called "Dracula Untold", as well as "My Babysitter is a Vampire" which was done by Disney, but these are all works of fiction and many people do not necessarily conduct further research about vampires, as they are mythological figures. However, it is important to talk about when it comes to history and how vampires came to be. The myth of vampires actually comes from Russia, and later transferred to Transylvania due to a real historical figure: Vladimir Dracul, or Vlad the Impaler. Hello Everyone! My name is Krystine and I am a secondary English Education major with a double major in Classics, specifically ancient civilizations. I will be finishing up my Classics degree with the class Ancient Greek Religion and I will be doing my full time student teaching next semester and graduating in May 2023, if all goes well. I am also doing my part time student teaching this semester at Bay View High school. My future goals would be to include ways to incorporate humanities into my future classes, with the ultimate dream of teaching mythology or showing the difference between cultures, but accepting those differences.
